Finding Absconding Debtors

Research Associates has been accurately locating the confirmed whereabouts of debtors throughout the UK and worldwide for over thirty years and are now widely regarded as leaders in their field. Research Associates has been tracing missing debtors for some of the world’s largest and well known financial institutions including banks, building societies, mortgage lenders as well as various government departments since being first established in 1977. We now offer the same high degree of service to business and corporate users as well as private individuals.

We pride ourselves on delivering a rapid turnaround; in supplying a fully confirmed address for an absconding debtor, whilst always working within the UK government’s stringent legislation (Article 8 of the Human Rights Act, the Data Protection Act and where relevant the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000). Over the last three decades Research Associates has amassed vast in-house records, databases and legal resources which enable us to supply the addresses of debtors more rapidly and cost effectively than less well established agencies who may rely on non-legal means.

A core principal of Research Associates debtor tracing policy is that at no time during the tracing of the individual do they become aware they are being investigated or know they have been found. This ensures that the subsequent legal process is not frustrated or compromised and that the individual is not given any opportunity to hide assets. A subsequent legally compliant Asset Searching service may also be implemented to effectively locate both liquid and tangible assets.

‘Professional Debtors’

Some individuals who owe money often disappear with the specific intention of avoiding payment, frequently attempting to hide their current whereabouts using false or altered names, not registering for services associated with their residential address, or going to the extent of changing their registered name (privately by deed poll). Research Associates effectively trace people as a matter of routine, even in difficult circumstances where individuals are actively trying to remain hidden.

Legal:

Allow Research Associates’ highly experience private investigators to explain how we will assist in your process. Note: For legal reasons, it is very helpful to formally let us know at the time of initial instruction that we are locating a debtor, as we are then able to make use of very helpful legislative consents, which allow us legal access to otherwise prohibited databases, some of which we may not have the right to use under other circumstances. This ensures the process of locating of a person becomes more straightforward and therefore more cost-effective.

Forensic IT

Research Associates offer govenment grade forensic examination to both corporate and private markets. Forensic IT requires a high degree of technical know-how, combined with an up to date understanding of the legal system. This understanding and insight is a vital necesssity as IT investigation may inadvertently become tarnished or compromised either by an inability to lay out technical IT investigation results in a presentable and legal format, or by an IT technician’s lack of experience as a professional witness (however skilled the IT technician may be). This may seriously jeapordise potential legal action. Therefore, prior to instruction, Research Associatesrecommend clients avoid unnecessarily tampering with a suspect machine and to obtain appropriate advice, preferably before the device is touched or even switched on/off. For all cases of IT forensics, including mobile telephones, PC/Macs and other IT devices/media, Research Associates stock a range of evidence bags designed to isolate the suspect device and so protect potential evidence. Competitive Intelligence: Strategic Advantage

Research Associates supply business users with, competitive intelligence, based on the retrieval of legally accessed but intelligently gathered information from a number of sources, including field intelligence, database (public and private) and any legal source of information gathering available, including more traditional means, such as observation/surveillance.

Competitive Intelligence is defined as “the action of gathering, analysing and applying information about products, customers, and competitors for the short term and long term planning needs of an organisation”. Competitive Intelligence (CI) is both a process and a product and is more than Competitor Analysis. The process of collecting, storing and analysing information about the competitive arena results in actionable output of intelligence ascertained by the requirements of an organisation. Most Competitive Intelligence involves the gathering and analysing of information via Open source Intelligence(‘OSInt’), surveillance and by other means and disseminating the results with client based stratagem. It should not be confused with ‘Industrial Espionage’, which may be unethical and under certain circumstances, may utilise illegal means to acquiring competitor information. In the realm of Competitive Intelligence, the problems faced by clients are always unique, so Research Associates’ approach is always tailored to specific requirements and objectives.

Polygraph

A polygraph (popularly referred to as a ‘lie detector’) is an instrument that measures and records several physiological responses such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, breathing rhythms, body temperature and skin conductivity (sweat gland activity) while the subject is asked and answers a series of questions, on the theory that false answers will produce distinctive measurements. The polygraph measures physiological changes caused by the sympathetic nervous system during questioning. In the UK, the polygraph is typically utilised for relationship issues -including cheating spouses or cheating partners, theft, sexual abuse and confirmation of innocence. It is now regularly used by UK govenment departments, as well as numerous international companies in the area of integrity anf lifestyle checks.

All our polygraph examiners (lie detector examiners) are very discreet and highly experienced, so please be reassured that when you book a test with us it will be handled with great sensitivity and discretion.

Polygraphs are in some countries have been used as an interrogation tool with criminal suspects, or candidates for sensitive public or private sector employment. The British (UK) government has now initiated Polygraph examinations in its most sensitive areas of investigation and are conducting clinical trials into the ongoing use of Polygraphy. The use and effectiveness of the polygraph historically has been controversial, with its validity subject to criticism. However, critics previously argued that even taking into account high estimates of the polygraph’s accuracy (up to 98% accurate), a significant number of subjects may appear to be lying and would therefore unfairly suffer the consequences of “failing” a polygraph test. However, Research Associates’examiners use only the very latest computerised instruments to accurately evaluate results and are fully conversant with the very most up to date techniques which help secure reliable successful results, once again ensuring precision in all reports.

Our UK lie detector experts are of a standard whereby they have undertaken specialist polygraph training for Post Conviction Sex Offender Testing (PCSOT) on behalf of the British/UK government.

In a UK court case (lawsuit), an involved party may order a psychologist to write an opinion based on polygraph results to substantiate the credibility of its claims. However, the party must bear the expense themselves, and the court weighs the opinion like any other opinion the party has ordered. UK courts themselves do not order or pay for polygraph tests. In most cases, polygraph tests are undertaken voluntarily by a defendant in order to substantiate claims and therefore provide documentary evidence.

Research Associates undertake tests Worldwide. We offer flat fees within the M25 area of London and at other UK locations. Fees may be based on specific travel time and costs for some remote areas and where overseas travel is involved.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How accurate is the polygraph?

A: Polygraph testing is very accurate, but is not infallible. According to the American Polygraph Association, over 250 studies into the accuracy of polygraph testing have been conducted over the past twenty-five years. In the past, it has been estimated that the accuracy of the results is in the range of 90-95%. More recently research indicates the accuracy of computerized polygraph testing as now being 98%.
Q: Is a ‘polygraph test’ similar to a ‘lie detector test’?

A: Yes. A polygraph instrument is a set of scientific, diagnostic apparatus, often called a ‘lie detector’. It is more accurate to refer to a polygraph instrument as a “truth verifier”.
Q: I am telling the truth but feel nervous about taking a polygraph examination. How does the polygraph establish the difference between my being nervous and reactions as a result of not telling the truth/lying?

A: It is normal for an innocent person to feel nervous taking a polygraph test and the polygraph examiner is always aware of this. Nervous reactions, recorded on polygraphic charts, are not interpreted by the polygrapher as any manifestation of deception. Nervous reactions differ from reactions recorded when a person is lying deliberately.
Q: Before I take a polygraph test, will I know what the specific questions are?

A: Yes. You will be informed of the exact wording of each question that will be asked during the course of your polygraph examination. There are no ‘trick questions’.
Q: How long will a polygraph examination take?

A: Most polygraph examination last between two and three hours. Some will last longer or shorter depending on the nature of the investigation.
Q: Why should a polygraph examination typically last between two and three hours?

A: The examiner typically gives a detailed explanation of the polygraph procedure and explains how the polygraph works. The examiner will also answer any questions that the examinee may have. Subsequent to the test, the examiner will then talk-through and inform the examinee of the results of the polygraph examination.
Q: Are you able to carry out polygraph tests in a foreign language?

A: Our expert examiners are able to carry out polygraph tests in any language, using appropriate linguistic experts.

Polygraph Test

The test normally lasts about 2-3 hours and comprises of three component parts:

Part 1: Our examiners spend between approximately one and two hours discussing the issue with the person to be examined. They then agree the questions to be asked and the actual test procedure is fully explained.

Part 2: This is the actual polygraph testing section, where the examinee is attached to several measurement components. The polygraph examiner typically runs three tests, with a short break in between each test.

Part 3: This is the evaluation of the test sheets and reporting of results, subsequent to a post test interview.

In most cases we are able to provide the results of the test soon after it being completed. One of the main benefits of using Research Associates Lie Detection Service is the confidence in the results of your test. Questioned Documents

Reasearch Associates are aware that Forensic Document Examination is viewed as one of the most difficult and taxing areas of forensic science, having a rich and well established history in both British and international courts of law.

The discipline of Forensic Document Examination is extensive, involving the study of a broad range of document to determine authenticity, to expose counterfeits and forgeries and to reveal aspects of a document’s origin and history. Additional to handwriting and signature authentication, our forensic document examiners study alterations, inks utilised, impressions, printing, typewriting, photocopies and the wider products of modern office technology; which are generally areas of expertise beyond “handwriting experts”, who tend to work within more limiting disiplines. Typically, our forensic document examiners act as ‘expert witnesses’ in the legal arena.
